TOOTH INFECTIONS

It is hard to believe, but it is true, that the largest amount of bacteria or germs are found in an adult’s mouth – not on the hands or feet or any other part of the body.

WHAT IS A TOOTH INFECTION?

tooth infectionA tooth infection is an extremely painful dental problem. It may be a throbbing or sharp pain, or a dull ache, in a tooth or around a tooth. If not treated immediately, the infection could spread to other tissues around the tooth or in the mouth or even in the body. A tooth infection should be taken very seriously because it could lead to a tooth extraction and even death as in the video at the bottom of this page. Tooth infections are usually a result of poor oral hygiene.

WHAT ARE THE SYMPTOMS OF A TOOTH INFECTION?

1. The cheek or the face of the person is swollen.
2. With the swelling, there may be pus and bleeding.
3. Pain is felt when pressure is exerted on the tooth.
4. Gums around the tooth may be swollen.  (See gum infection.)
5. A bad taste may be prominent in your mouth.
6. The tooth may be extremely sensitive to cold or heat.
7. A person may experience a fever.

In the following video, it will become much clearer why everyone needs to take these symptoms so seriously.

WISDOM TEETH INFECTIONS

Infection in wisdom teeth usually occurs when the tooth or teeth are not fully grown or when the teeth grow in a slanted direction.

WHAT ARE WISDOM TEETH INFECTIONS?

1. Pericoronitis is an infection that is found in the gum tissue around the wisdom tooth.
2. Caries is another infection that occurs when the wisdom tooth grows crooked and leaves a space between the wisdom tooth and the next tooth.
3. Tooth decay can also be responsible for infection of wisdom teeth. With ordinary brushing, food often cannot be removed from the wisdom teeth area.
4. When wisdom teeth are not fully grown or developed, a cyst infection or tumor can appear in the tooth gums.
5. Tilted or slanted wisdom teeth in any direction can damage the teeth or gums next to them.

SINUS INFECTIONS

Pain of any sort in a tooth or the teeth often leaves people thinking they have infection in their teeth. With a sinus infection, a person can suffer with a headache as well. The sinuses are located in the upper part of your jaw bone, and a sinus infection can be extremely painful. Most people make an appointment with a dentist in such a case, and some learn that their “toothache” is actually Sinusitis, or a sinus headache which has nothing to do with your teeth.

After seeing your dentist, if any extensive or shocking procedure is recommended, take the time to immediately look for a second opinion. In some cases, even a third opinion could be advisable.

The following news report video is a true story of a young man who sadly thought he just had a sinus infection when it was really a tooth infection and it led to his death. It emphasizes the importance of seeing your dentist as soon as possible. If you don’t have a dentist, click here to find one.

  • All ongoing dental / medical problems are accepted (except orthodontic treatment already in progress)
  • No waiting period. You can go to the dentist immediately.
  • All Specialists included – Oral Surgeons, Orthodontists, Endodontists, Periodontists and Prosthodontists.
